Voice plan B: let us at least fly the flag
Jennifer Hewett is right (July 28), the government does not have a plan B if the Voice referendum fails. Apart from the world seeing us as a racist nation, many Indigenous Australians will feel even more marginalised.
With their permission, we could save face by proclaiming the Aboriginal flag as the Australian flag. It is by far the most beautiful Australian flag flying over our nation: it’s poetry in motion.
Our current flag looks like Britain at night, and there’s nothing on it to represent our First Nations people.
Whatever the result, the government should fly a giant Aboriginal flag over Parliament House the day after the referendum.
