Flag Adopted: 24 March 1876
Flag Proportion: 1:2
Use: State Flag and Ensign
South Australia′s second flag was introduced in 1876 after the British Colonial Office suggested a new design be adopted as the former design was "inconveniently similar to that of New Zealand and Victoria".
The new badge design showed an artistic rendition of the arrival of Britannia (a woman in flowing garb with a shield, representing the white settlers) meeting an Aborigine sitting with a spear at the foot of a hill by the seashore. On the rocks behind the Aborigine appears a rock carving of a kangaroo.
