SUN + STARS
This evolution of the Australian National Flag retains the Southern Cross on a green field and adds a new golden emblem.
To mark our independence from the UK, the Union Jack is deleted and our Commonwealth Star evolves extra sparkles as the new symbol of our strong, sovereign governance.
The gold emblem can be read as a blossom of our floral emblem, the Golden Wattle; as a prized gold medallion; but primarily as a glistening golden sun.
Australia is recognised in poems and songs as a sun-blessed nation, and is the first continent to experience the sun's passage each day.
Together the Sun and Stars represent two aspects of the Australian character - working hard together to build the nation each day, and reflecting on our place in the world under the timeless southern stars each night.
Aspiration and Endeavour.
