The recent protests have shown people think that real Australians are only those with British ancestry and that if you have any other background you’re an immigrant no matter how far your lineage goes back in Australia and use the Union Jack in the flag to justify this so the first thing I did was remove it. The primary colours of the flag are our actual national colours of Green and Gold which represent our abundance in nature and prosperity. In the centre sits a black circle to represent the aboriginal people with lines stretching from corner to corner representing their long history in the country before the British came here. There are ripples surrounding the centre in the shape of an eye to represent the Torres Strait. In the centre sits the commonwealth star made from the buds of the golden wattle. Each bud of the wattle represents a state and territories or future states and it sits on top of the black circle in the middle to signify that the commonwealth and Australia as we know it was built on top of indigenous land. On the bottom right is the southern cross as it is the most important guiding star of the southern hemisphere placed in the gold to guide us to prosperity and lastly on the green top left is our national animal the kangaroo as it’s the most recognisable Australian symbol worldwide and anyone that sees it immediately knows it belongs to Australia. And sorry for the poor quality, i made this in Snapchat, but you can get the overall idea i was going for from the image.
