A distinctive and bold flag in Australia's colours and most recognisable symbols that unmistakably declares 'We are Australia".
Progressing themes of earlier designs, the following aspects are incorporated for broad appeal and enduring relevance as our national flag,
1. Australia's most distinctive and unifying symbols, identifying the land and all its people. The Southern Cross from the current flag is positioned on the hoist side. The kangaroo from the RAAF ensign and Australian penny is prominently displayed on the fly side bounding towards the Southern Cross, emphasising progress.
2. Use of the national colours strengthen Australia's brand. A darker shade of our national green improves contrast with the white stars and balances the gold. The result is suitable for use in sports, foreign affairs and defence. The green and gold unify Australia's brand, achieve separation from the British colours and avoids the design complexities of incorporating the black, yellow and red of the Aboriginal Flag which will continue to be used alongside the national flag.
3. Simple combination of elements, symmetry and balance of the shapes of the Southern Cross (2/5 width) and the kangaroo. It suitable for adaption to other aspect ratios, badges and other shapes.
4. Dominant gold provides visible warmth; the kangaroo evokes emotional warmth and connection.
5. Adaptable for State flag designs. Aligns with the themes of the NT and ACT flags.
