The formation of the new nation of Australia represented by the Federation Star has been placed in the prime position of the flag. It replaces the Union Jack formerly occupying this prominent position.
Southern Cross is retained, and a vestige of the Union Jack is denoted as the red and white triangles at the base of the flag.
In flight the triangles exhibit energy, vision and optimism.
The tradition of Red, White and Blue is honored.
