The Sydney Morning Herald, 26 January 1998, p.1.
A national push for a new Australian flag, to be chosen in time for the Sydney Olympics and the centenary of Federation, was launched at ceremonies in Sydney and Perth yesterday.
One hundred new flags by professional designers were unveiled at a ceremony at the Museum of Sydney. After the public has had a chance to see, and vote for, the designs over the next eight months, three flags will be submitted to the Federal Government with a request for a national plebiscite.
Today the Herald publishes the designs and invites readers to vote by phone for their preferred design, or for the existing flag.
